Who:
justbeingaqueen and
rockstarwarbler
What: I woke up feeling heavy hearted, I'm going back to where I started
Where: Chemo Clinic
When: The morning after Blaine's nightmare
Rating: PG-13
The whole time the oncology nurse stood beside him fiddling with his central line to start the infusion running, Kurt was watching his husband. Blaine was in his usual chair beside Kurt's cushy recliner and his elbows were resting on the portable meal table slotted over one of the recliner's arms and he was holding his head up with his hands like it was just too heavy for his neck to manage alone. In Kurt's humble opinion, Blaine looked something akin to a very hot zombie but the red puffy eyes weren't the thing drawing Kurt's attention. It was the pasty pallor of Blaine's skin and the strange, quiet haze he seemed to be in. He hadn't said a whole lot that morning as he woke Kurt up and they went through the standard motions of getting him ready for his chemo session. In fact, the only time he really piped up with anything was in the car when he snapped at Burt to turn the radio off because he hated the song, and for the life of him, Kurt couldn't imagine why he had taken such a passionate dislike to Wherever You Will Go by The Calling. To Kurt, those lyrics were poignant right now but he preferred the Charlene Soraia version.
"There you go, sweetie. All done," the nurse told Kurt with a sofa smile and gave his shoulder a gentle pat. Then she handed him a lemon pedialyte freezer pop wrapped in a napkin so his hand wouldn't get cold. The staff knew him now, and they were starting to see a pattern with him. Kurt was one of those patients who inevitably ended up sick by the end of the session, so they tried to keep him well-hydrated throughout it. Freezer pops, black tea, Sprite, occasionally jello or clear broth. It was a constant production line of options placed in front of him as the day wore on. She clipped shoulder of his gown back over and then pulled the blanket up to his chest, tucking him in to keep him warm. She made sure he had his buzzer, and then drew the curtain around Kurt's bay to give him and Blaine some privacy from the rest of the ward as she left.
( Kurt thanked her as she left and gave a small suck of the freezer pop, but he didn't have a whole lot interest in it... )
